The Coalition of Animal Rescue Transporters (CART) started with a simple realization: Arkansas has far more adoptable cats and dogs than local demand can support. While volunteering at a local animal shelter, the founder of CART saw overcrowding firsthand. Later, while running a small foster-based rescue, she experienced just how powerful transport could be when 90 cats were sent to Minnesota over eight months, and every single one was adopted, most within two weeks.
CART was created to help local rescues and shelters give animals that same chance by coordinating transport to trusted destination partners. We don’t ‘intake’ animals ourselves. Instead, we handle the logistics so rescues can focus on saving lives. What began with cats quickly grew to include dogs as well, and collaboration became the heart of our work.
Today, CART is a group of 10-member organizations working together to move animals from overcrowded areas to communities where they’re wanted and welcomed. By sharing resources, experience, and partnerships, we help more animals find homes and help rescues make room to save the next ones.
